- ➤ Metropolitan Community College hosted its 34th annual Intertribal Powwow that brought tribes from Nebraska—including the Omaha, Winnebago, Ho-Chunk, Shawnee, and East Santee Dakota—together for dance, music, and storytelling. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Officials announced Monday a plan called the Apple Plan to lower property taxes and create a new funding model for Nebraska public schools by reducing the taxable value of real and agricultural properties and setting a $50,000 minimum pay for certified teachers. Organizers need thousands of signatures from volunteers across the state to get the plan on the ballot—this effort aims to support families, students, and teachers. KETV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen signed an order on Monday to join a federal tax credit program that will bring back school choice through scholarships for private schools and tutoring at public schools. - ➤ The Nebraska Department of Transportation announced that it will design and build a new interchange at 192nd and Interstate 80 to ease gridlock and improve road safety in Sarpy County—one of the county's fastest growing areas. - ➤ Kaitland Simpson, who lost her teeth to Sjögren's Syndrome as a child, began free implant surgery Monday through the Give a Smile program with Oral Surgery Associates and surgeon Stephen Coffey. The nearly four-month procedure will restore her smile and boost her self-confidence as she looks forward to enjoying her first steak when it is complete. KETV
