ECONOMY NEWS

  • Heavy summer rains eased drought concerns for local farmers & many now expect record yields despite a rise in plant disease since the dry start to 2025. David Thien of Thien Farm Management said the improved conditions from recent storms have reduced the earlier drought levels and that harvest will begin in several weeks.  KETV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Offutt Air Force Base celebrated a major milestone in recovering from the 2019 floods—military officials held a ribbon cutting for the Base Lake Campus as part of a $12.6 million project that replaced the old campus damaged during the floods. The revamped campus now offers a gathering hall, playground and sand volleyball area to support airmen and families.  KETV
  • The Medical Cannabis Commission held an emergency meeting Monday after Gov. Jim Pillen said he will not sign the amended emergency regulations unless limits on plant counts are set — he requests 200 plants in indoor, 500 in outdoor, and 2,000 in grain house facilities. The commission is now reviewing if these measures will provide enough supply for patients.  KETV

  • Douglas County officials confirmed the season's first two West Nile virus cases—one was locally acquired—and the Health Department advised residents to use bug spray, wear long sleeves, and drain standing water to reduce mosquito bites.  KETV
