CRIME NEWS

  • Two men were arrested Wednesday in Omaha after a high-speed chase that began at 12:45 a.m. on Highway 75 north of downtown and lasted 50 minutes until officers used stop sticks — the Bellevue driver Anthony Chase was booked for obstructing, willful reckless driving while the Omaha passenger Mason Trevillion was held on an outstanding warrant.  WOWT
  • On Oct. 23, 2019 Andrea Georgeson was robbed and shot in her car near 108th and Old Mill and after nearly two years of investigation, police arrested Cordell Bridgeman—who was convicted for other robberies in 2020—and he will be charged with first-degree murder as her family calls for justice.  KETV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting Sept. 3, a new Nebraska law will impose tougher speeding fines—motorists driving 5 miles or more over the posted limit will face a $50 fine plus court costs, and those driving double the speed limit will be charged with reckless driving.  WOWT
  • Foundation and concrete work will begin this fall for the Bellevue Bay waterpark project, with vertical construction continuing through the winter and completion scheduled by early 2027. The city pre-purchased materials to manage rising costs—keeping the project near $60 million and aiming to boost local economic activity.  3 News Now
  • KETV and a national team looked at more than 90,000 dams and found that 12 of Nebraska’s nearly 3,000 dams are in poor condition—an issue experts are watching. Nebraska ranked ninth for high-hazard dam safety, and officials will check more records to keep people safe.  KETV
  • Thirteen state senators are asking for a hearing over Gov. Pillen's decision to use a McCook facility as an ICE detention center and they question its legal authority, impact, and cost to Nebraskans—officials say the move was made without proper public input. Senator Hunt emphasized that the agreement lacks transparency and may burden taxpayers during a tight budget period.  KETV
