COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Outlook Enrichment offered people with limited or no vision a chance to ride tandem bikes on Saturday down the Field Club Trail—an electric tandem bike donated by the Lions Club of Bellevue and Papillion helped guide riders with mobility issues, and more rides are planned.  KETV
  • Law enforcement and fire departments across Sarpy County played in the Slugfest Softball Tournament to raise funds for Lift Up Sarpy County. The championship game is held today at 2:30 p.m. at Werner Park with teams such as Bellevue Fire + Offutt Security Forces vying to win.  3 News Now
  • On Saturday morning near Metro Crossing, volunteers in bright yellow vests cleaned streets despite the hot sun and humidity. Led by Zak Kephart of Groundworks Omaha, community groups including Omaha Supernovas—Storm Chasers—and Town and Country Animal Rescue joined the effort to spark a chain effect of service projects advertised online.  KETV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA forecasts record travel numbers from Nebraska and Iowa around Independence Day, with over 5 million people expected to travel and more than 4 million taking road trips. The agency says about 600,000 will use buses, trains, or cruises—showing nearly a 10% rise from last year.  KETV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Omaha Suburban Rotary Club is renovating Crestridge Elementary’s outdoor learning center as part of its Adopt a School program. They have cleaned the area, planted 207 plants and added 20 tons of mulch, and expect to finish the project by today.  WOWT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A new granite memorial bench was installed at Offutt Air Force Base to honor members and crews of the 4th Airborne Command Control Squadron—whose EC135A aircraft once operated from the site—while a similar bench stands at Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota to commemorate the group. The tribute recognizes the fallen crews and reflects lasting respect for their service.  KETV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Pet owners are advised by the Nebraska Humane Society to prepare pets for Fourth of July fireworks by using calming tools like a thunder jacket (to help ease anxiety) and by consulting their vet about anxiety medication before the celebrations. The society also recommends updating microchip records and ensuring pets wear collar tags in case they escape during the events.  WOWT
