Today, hundreds of kids enjoyed the new playground at American Heroes Park while Mayor Rusty Hike said the project took two years and cost $2.8 million.

The playground is four times larger than others in Bellevue and needed seven semitrucks of equipment—an amphitheater expansion is planned.

Dave Gifford of All Seasons Foundation delivered water and opened a cooling center in his Bellevue office today to help neighbors cope with extreme heat — the center is available from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. for anyone needing relief.

Bellevue University student Makinzie Gregory was crowned Miss Nebraska today in North Platte while Gabriella Swift won Miss Nebraska’s Teen to support eating disorder recovery—both will head to Orlando in September for national Miss America competitions.

They plan to promote their community service initiatives during their year of service.

Bellevue residents can set off fireworks from June 25 to July 3 between 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on July 4 from 8 a.m. to Midnight—local rules advise keeping water nearby and following safety guidelines set by the Omaha Fire Department.
