- ➤ Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers warned Nebraskans that romance scams and cryptocurrency fraud have surged, with victims losing six-figure sums on fake trading platforms & apps, and he urged residents not to send money to unknown online contacts but to report suspicious activity to their bank or exchange. - ➤ A bill to regulate medical marijuana advanced from committee 5-3 on Thursday after a compromise amendment was added that bans smoking—if passed, cardholders may possess up to 2 ounces and use it for 15 specific illnesses. Nebraska voters approved legal medical marijuana in November. KETV
- ➤ Representative Don Bacon said he opposes moving SNAP benefit costs to the states because it could add a heavy burden on Nebraska. He said he will focus on funding crucial projects like airport and water infrastructure—arguing that shifting these costs will not save money. KETV
- ➤ Gov. Jim Pillen named Bryan Waugh as the new Nebraska State Patrol superintendent—replacing Colonel John Bolduc, who retired May 4 due to the mandatory retirement age—and Waugh will begin his term on June 2 with Lt. Col. Jeff Roby serving as interim superintendent. KETV
