ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ The Nebraska Department of Transportation reported 16 traffic fatalities in March, raising the state's total to 49 deaths in 2025. The fatalities occurred from 46 crashes in rural areas, on interstate roads, highways and local roads — only two of the victims wore seatbelts. WOWT
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Nebraska’s Division of Public Health director Charity Menefee resigned Tuesday to spend more time with her family and served the state since 2021; her resignation is effective May 9 — details about her replacement will be announced later. KETV
- ➤ The Nebraska Legislature’s General Affairs Committee is considering an amendment to LB 677 that would ban cannabis flower—one of the most common forms—and exclude PTSD as a qualifying condition, a move opposed by veterans and Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana. The committee will meet Thursday to review the proposed changes. WOWT
- ➤ On Monday, Nebraska lawmakers advanced LB 80 that would let courts extend protection orders from one year to two years—this bill was introduced by Sen. Bob Hallstrom and comes as rising domestic violence cases have left communities in shock—and it also includes a measure to evict those living with victims when orders are filed. WOWT
