COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Habitat for Humanity is offering a home repair program—providing no-interest loans for qualified homeowners to fix critical issues like furnaces, siding and plumbing—in Sarpy and Cass counties. The program has funding to repair nearly 60 homes this year and helps Bellevue residents like Charles Jones maintain safe, stable housing.  WOWT

CRIME NEWS

  • A pregnant 17-year-old from Wisconsin (the focus of a months-long Amber Alert) was found safe in Sarpy County on April 2 (the 40-year-old man she was with was taken into custody by the sheriff’s office).  KETV
  • University of Nebraska Police and Public Safety have warned UNMC students that scammers are calling them with numbers that appear to be from ICE—IRS—FBI and other agencies to threaten their legal status or demand money to avoid arrest. The alert advises any contacted student to call 402 559 5111 to verify the information since real officials never make such demands.  KETV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Dan Osborn, a longtime Independent and steamfitter, formed an exploratory committee to consider a Senate run in 2026 against Senator Pete Ricketts. He noted that he earned 47 percent of the vote in his last campaign and helped save nearly 500 jobs during the Kellogg’s strike—factors that frame his challenge to the billionaire incumbent.  KETV
  • Nebraska lawmakers will debate a bill next week that would change the state’s method of assigning presidential electoral votes to a winner-take-all system. Debate on LB 3 will begin at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and last four hours—lawmakers need 33 votes to overcome a filibuster and advance the measure.  KETV
