- ➤ Altrusa International Club of Bellevue is accepting grant applications from local nonprofits that support literacy, education and family services. Applications must be submitted by May 8 and awards (ranging from $250-$1,000) will be issued by May 30. Bellevue Times
- ➤ Douglas County Volunteer Fire Departments deployed crews and equipment under Boys Town Fire Chief Nick Thoreen on Thursday morning to help fight the Cottonwood and Morrill fires in western Nebrask. Authorities said the teams are aiding efforts to keep the wildfires contained. WOWT
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ NDOT has resumed placing winter construction cones on I-480 over the Missouri River, causing the closure of two inside lanes and the left lane on Douglas and Dodge ramps (the project started in 2024 and will finish this fall). KETV

- ➤ Nebraska men’s basketball won its first NCAA tournament game as local bars unlocked refrigerators stocked with limited-edition Husker cans to mark the historic win, and fans in Omaha and Lincoln celebrated while they prepare for their game against Vanderbilt tomorrow. WOWT
